Alley Chat Bike Race Information and Rules:

Information-

Alley Cat- An alley cat race is a race where the participants have to complete a series of checkpoints given to them on a manifest. Alley Cats are not determined by the fastest person on a bike. The winner is the person who decides the best route between checkpoints and executes it most effectively. In our two last races the winners were primarily bicycle commuters on 15 - 20 year old steel bikes. So come one, come all, try your hand at a good time no matter what "type" of cyclist you may be.

Registration- Cost is $6 cash. We start registering riders at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Street Bike Co-op at the St. Andrews Center. The Center is located at 1918 Union Avenue in the Highland Park Neighborhood. You will see bikes outside of our entrance where there is a rectangular blue Chatt State sign. Google map it, now. The race will start at 6:10 on the dot so don't be late.

Manifest- This sheet is given to each racer at the beginning of the race. It provides hints and information the nature and locations of the checkpoints. Racers must be able to hold onto the manifest the whole race without getting it all sweaty and janky so it can't be read. Pencils will be provided.

Checkpoints- There will be 10 checkpoints. They will be dispersed around the areas of Downtown, Rossville/St.Elmo, Highland Park, and the North Shizzyschnizzy shore.

At each checkpoint you will either record the posted five digit number on your manifest or perform a task. The tasks you will perform will either be silly or physically difficult, but not dangerous. 7 out of 10 of the checkpoints will be signs with 5 digit numbers. 3 checkpoints will be tasks you must perform.

Rules-

Criteria for Winning- The first person to get all ten checkpoints recorded in their manifest and return to the Co-op wins. Manifests must be reviewed by judges and approved as completed before a winner is declared.

Riders must collect checkpoint numbers for themselves- Each rider MUST collect the 5 digit number from each checkpoint for themselves. You will be disqualified if you collect a number and then provide it to another rider.

Task Checkpoints- 3 of the 10 Checkpoints will be a task you must perform at each checkpoint. These Checkpoints will be marked by a sign with a Main Street Bike Co-op logo. After you complete the necessary task, the checkpoint coordinator will initial your manifest, and you're off.

You must ride to all points- Anyone suspected of riding in a car during the race will be disqualified. There will be one "cheater car" in this race which will be a component of a checkpoint. You can ride in that as part of the race, but all other cars will get you kicked the mess out of the race.

You are responsible for your safety- Bring a light and a helmet. Racers are expected to adhere to all traffic laws and not be jerks. Stay safe at all times.

Smart Phones- Yes, you can use your stupid smart phone during the race, but odds are that it might slow you down. You don't want that. But don't whine about dropping them and breaking them or you will get tickled til you're happy again.
